Ashwin Madia blog day: Help Madia fight back!

Today is Ashwin Madia blog day all around Minnesota. Progressive bloggers are teaming up to raise at least $2,000 for Madia today. Will you donate right now?

Why does Ash need our help? Because of his political courage, as I shared yesterday. And because Erik Paulsen has already begun going negative. In a story that is not getting enough coverage by the mainstream media, Paulsen has begun push-polling in CD3. A push poll is a negative attack under the guise of a poll; callers ask “questions” implying negative things about a candidate, and they don’t actually record the answers because they don’t care. Paulsen’s push polls distorted Madia’s position on Iraq and lied about aspects of Madia’s tenure as president of the University of Minnesota student body (going into any more detail than this would be spreading the Paulsen campaign’s lies, which I’m not about to do).

Yesterday, Madia for Congress Campaign Manager, Stu Rosenberg delivered a letter condemning the use of negative push polls to Laurie Esau, the campaign manager for Erik Paulsen. Rosenberg requested that, if the Paulsen campaign funded the poll or had a connection to the completion of this poll, the Paulsen campaign cease and desist such activities going forward. Rosenberg also requested written confirmation that the Paulsen campaign disavows push polls, and will not engage in such polls going forward.

Of course, to my knowledge the Paulsen campaign has not yet disavowed push polling, and I wouldn’t hold your breath.

UPDATE (10:30 AM): I spoke with Michael Brodkorb, spokesman for the Paulsen Campaign. He says the Paulsen campaign is not responsible, and that they disavow these tactics. Unfortunately, nobody has been able to get any response from the Houston, TX-based firm making these calls.

Please help Ash run his positive campaign! Donate now!
